Hi Folks,
I know a lot of you have your minds on, in or over Jamaica but I have to tell you about the Young Americans Music Outreach Tour thats going on in UK at the moment. There is a Feat-related aspect & I'll get round to that.......
Last night we went to St John's Hall in Penzance UK & watched a 40-strong group of young American people perform. They were superb & worked their way through various ages or genres of music, dance & song with skills that put Pop Idol, X-Factor et alia to shame. It was emotional for sure & the tears really started to flow in the second act when they brought on maybe 80-90 local school kids & students who'd attended workshops over the preceding 2 days.
We know a lot of the parents in the audience & some of their backgrounds are "colourful" to say the very least. Most of their kids have never done anything like it before but with the help, hard work & patience of the YAs they were all stars for a night. We saw past, present & future in those couple of hours & although our town is far from affluent, those kids left with riches beyond their dreams. Helps you get things in perspective sometimes!
There were a lot of proud parents in the hall & none would have been prouder than Paul & Pam Barrere whose son Gabriel was working the sound-desk like a true pro. Through another twist of fate Gabe has been staying with us over the past few days & is the first Barrere to visit Penzance.....we have a feeling he won't be the last.
The YAs head back up country on March 4th so if any UK Feat fans are reading this, please go to
http://www.youngamericans.org/ & check their itinerary. Go to a show, say Hi, give a group member a roof over their head if you can because the Outreach Tours depend on that support. And to Holger, Ulrich, Norbert & the many fans in Germany, they'll be in your country in April after a short break back home......go see them, you won't regret it!
Thanks for listening & have a great time all you maniacs in Jamaica.....
Gary & Emma UK
