We should also mention the tremendous success of the books, school supplies, and instruments drive for the Deep Blue Ripple & Chinese New Year organization.  Thanks to all who donated items for this very worthy cause.  Steve Epstein also had a nice cash donation for Deep Blue Ripple, from the sales of his vintage LF tee-shirts.  All of you—your generosity will be greatly appreciated by the underprivileged kids of Jamaica!

By the way, thank you notes are forthcoming from the charities involved, and will be posted here as soon as they are received.

Sincere Thanks,
Jim & Darcy Fangman

We promised to share Thank-You Letters from the Jamaican charities.  Below is the thank you from The Animal House Jamaica.

”2006 was a very difficult year for The Animal House Jamaica. Not only did we have to contend with very little funding assistance throughout the year, but we had to also contend with the considerable damage left behind by Hurricane Gustav (our fifth hurricane in only four years). Thus, when we received the donation from last year’s Little Feat event, it made a huge difference to the welfare of our 150 plus animals. We used the funds to purchase medicine, food, and to build some extra wooden dog houses so that all of our dogs could once again have shelter from the rain.

Not only was the donation from Little Feat and fans a blessing in itself, but it seemed to generate further help so that 2008 was easier than the preceding year. We are still running short of meeting our annual operating budget, but we managed to get through the past twelve months with only a few crisis periods (as opposed to 2007, which was basically one ongoing crisis period).

To be the fortunate recipient of a further donation from Little Feat and Fans last month is of great help to our animals. This time the funds have been allotted to purchase much-needed - and very expensive - medication for five our our dogs who are suffering from life-threatening (but treatable) conditions, as well as repair the remaining damage from Gustav. We are also going to be able to complete our spay/neuter program so that every in-house animal will be sterilized (as well as some feral cats that we care for).

Little Feat and fans:  We cannot thank you enough for your concern for Jamaica’s forgotten animals. In particular, we would like to thank Jim and Darcy Fangman, Diane Pelis, and (big round of applause) the members of Little Feat.

One love from Jamaica,

Maureen Sheridan,
The Animal House Jamaica

And here is the Thank You Letter from Deep Blue Ripple International.

DeepBlueRipple International offers deep thanks for the generosity of Little Feat, Chinese New Year, and RatDog fans and organizers who participated in our triple donation drive to bring art, music, play, and educational resources to children in Jamaica  In addition to the donation drive, the Friends of the West End Kids Fair in Negril, and the West Haven Concert and Garden Project in Copse were also both spectacularly successful thanks to the donated time and effort of musicians and volunteers from all 3 groups who gifted moments of their precious vacation to help a child. Our philanthropic ventures were a tremendous success and drew accolades from the Negril Chamber of Commerce, the One Love Negril Business Cluster, Negril.com, and school administrators in Hanover & Westmoreland parishes. On behalf of students at Mt. Airy All-Ages School, Green Island High School, and Rusea’s High School; residents and staff of of West Haven Children’s Home for the Disabled; the girls of the Divers Village Girls Club; and individual children and families of West End Negril, Divers Village, Orange Hill, White Hall, and many other neighborhoods we say THANK YOU!

Elana Himmelfarb,
Deep Blue Ripple International
