Bill Payne's "Tracing Footsteps" Show with Dennis McNally: Grateful Dead biographer and publicist and a special set of Bill Payne with The Hooligans

Forty years behind the keyboards of Little Feat and playing with people like Jimmy Buffett, the Doobie Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, Bob Seger, and James Taylor allows you to see some things. Bill Payne likes to express what he sees with his playing and also with his photography, and he’s stepping out with a solo show, Tracing Footsteps that shares some of all of it – what he’s seen on the road and what he’s seen through the camera, as well as doing what he’s best known for, playing the best piano this side of the ocean (pick your ocean).  This includes some of his new material with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter as well as Feat Fan favorites.  He’ll take questions, too.  These will be unique opportunities to interact in an intimate environment. 

Grateful Dead biographer and publicist Dennis McNally will open with road stories of his own, and also help with the Q and A. Author of A Long Strange Trip, The Inside History of the Grateful Dead  and Desolate Angel: Jack Kerouac, The Beat Generation, and America , McNally has keen insight into the heart of American counterculture as well as the unique experience of unlimited, ground floor access to one of the most groundbreaking, successful and captivating cultural and musical stories in recent history.

Venerable Montana based band Hooligans will be augmenting Bill Payne’s Tracing Footsteps during the Northwest tour 2013 in Missoula, Portland, and Seattle. Hooligans have plied their roots Americana, blues, and folky rock and roll in Montana with a solid core lineup since 1989 with an ear toward a great song and an adventurous improvisational musical conversation. They’ve had the good fortune to open shows and perform on stage with The Band, Rodney Crowell, Burning Spear, Little Feat, JJ Cale, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Melvin Seals/JGB, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Hot Tuna, Widespread Panic and dozens more.

A chance meeting in 2011 shortly after Payne’s permanent relocation to Montana led to two years plus of inspired musical interaction, a writing partnership, a recording project due for spring 2013 release, and endless hours of childish bad humor.  Hooligans will perform a full electric set with Payne on keys/vocals as well as joining the show at various points in Tracing Footsteps.
